I have an audio comment on my list of things to do. In fact, that was my first plan, but then I had so much I wanted to say that I thought I would start with a detailed blog post and condense into a comment for you. Heck, I'll probably talk about it on my own podcast.
I did indicate that you said "want" not "is." I was not explicit about this in the post, but I don't think content "wants" to be free either. To assign desires to inanimate objects may be odd, but I believe that content "wants" to have value and have that value recognized.
My bet is that once you read the full post, you will find that we're not that far apart. A lot of what I talk about is how we frame the discussion.

Content "Freedom"

Jaffe tweeted a request for thoughts and comments for his next podcast via Twitter the other day. The topic: Content Wants To Be Free. (Inspired by Chip Waldman's recent and quite articulate post.) Is this much ado about nothing? I

Chip, just stumbled upon this. I'll read this tomorrow, but in the interim, send me an audio comment regarding this post: +1 206 203-3255.
I'll address this specifically on ATS.
And I'm glad you disgree...it wouldn't be fun and more importantly, it wouldn't be valuable if you agreed with me ALL the time :)
btw...I think the line I use is "content wants/strives/longs to be free", as opposed to content is/must be free. Also, it's not necesarrily what I think in this case, it's the reality of what is and what consumers are/will tolerate.
...but like I said, I haven't read, what looks like a really good post from you.
Look forward to the audio comment.
