Disruptive Dialogue to Return

My Internet radio show, Disruptive Dialogue, is coming back.  It has been on hiatus since the last episode was recorded and released on July 4.  I had put it on the shelf because of time constraints and because, although I was getting positive feedback on it, I didn't feel it had really found the right format and didn't differentiate enough from other podcasts (except that it was my somewhat unique point of view).

But it dawned on me today while listening to an NPR report about Jeff Jarvis' Networked Journalism conference last week that the role for Disruptive Dialogue should be just that: a dialogue.  So I will be coming back at you with interviews and conversations (and maybe even some debate) with leading voices on the same topics that write about here.

You can expect a good bit of dialogue about the future of media, the role of social media, how entrepreneurship and content mix, and much more.

A few other changes you can expect:

  • I'm dropping episode numbers.  I never really liked them, and I'm taking advantage of version 2 to eliminate them.  Shows will be titled, just like blog posts are, to help listeners understand what will be included.
  • No more obscure show notes.  Instead, I plan to write a brief post summarizing the conversation so that anyone who doesn't have time to listen can still walk away with value -- beyond simply the table of contents list.
  • The term podcast is going away, as you may have noticed in the opening sentence of this post.  Disruptive Dialogue is an Internet radio program.  For many potential listeners and guests, the term podcast conjures up an unnecessarily technical view of what's going on.  If you can click and listen to sports radio or NPR on the web, why marginalize what we do by assigning an obscure (and misleading) term to it?
  • New content will not appear on a pre-arranged timetable.  The Internet removes the necessity to confine oneself to a specific publishing schedule or length.  To do so is simply creating arbitrary rules.  Instead, new shows will come out when I have a dialogue that is worth sharing.  That may be a few times one week, and none the next.

I have already lined up some interesting people to begin the dialogue, and I hope you will tune in.  As always, I will include updates on new shows at both my blog, Pardon the Disruption, and on the Disruptive Dialogue web site itself.

A Better Way to Curate

image I gave in.  I switched to Google Reader.  The good news for you, the reader, is that I can now use the shared items feature to let you know what I find interesting, but may not have the time to blog about.

Visit this page to see what feed items I'm finding interesting or subscribe to the RSS feed.

If you are still undecided, here's the last 10 things I added to the list:

Posting Will Resume on April 16

I'm headed mostly off the grid for the next week as I enjoy one of my periodic recharging periods -- in this case my annual winter visit away from the snow (yes, there's still a lot of it on the ground here in New Hampshire).

There will be no new episode of Disruptive Dialogue this week and blog posts are highly unlikely until I return.  In the meantime, feel free to check out the "most popular" posts in the right hand sidebar.

The Changing Face of This Blog

As I noted almost exactly two months ago, I recently became CEO of CustomScoop (more here).  Since that time, this blog has been largely neglected as a I poured much of my energy into strategic planning for 2007 and beyond.

But now I have come up for air and hope to be able to devote more energy to this space in the future.  The emphasis will change a bit because of my new role.  While I continue to be an angel investor, this now consumes less of my time than it did previously.  This blog will reflect that as a greater emphasis is placed on the power of the Internet to empower organizations to more effectively monitor and manage their brand perceptions.

I suspect this will seem like a subtle change to most readers since there's always been a hearty dose of that sort of material anyway.  And I will continue to share my thoughts on gadgets since I can't get enough of them!

InterAdvocacy and TechJots Merge

I confess: I have too many blogs.  And InterAdvocacy and TechJots had too much overlap to continue to keep them separate.  So I have combined them under one banner to serve as my flagship blog: Pardon the Disruption.

Here you will find the same sort of analysis, commentary, and links that have been part of the earlier blogs.  It will allow me to do a better job of keeping the blog up to date since I won't be splitting my output between two different blogs.  And hopefully it will expose all of my readers to a few topics that they might otherwise have missed.

All of the posts from InterAdvocacy and TechJots have been imported into Pardon the Disruption so a full archive remains available.  All comments and trackbacks appear to have imported correctly as well.  (The TypePad import/export tool works nicely, it seems.)

In addition, the FeedBurner feeds have been merged into one, so I apologize in advance for any repeat posts you receive.

What Is Pardon the Disruption?

  • As founder & CEO of CustomScoop, I have a special interest in the intersection of technology and PR/marketing. In addition, as a serial entrepreneur and angel investor, I cover those topics, as well as an occasional post on the gadgets I love.
