Podcasts I Listen To: For Immediate Release/The Hobson & Holtz Report

It only seemed appropriate to have the latest installment in my media consumption discussion to be about a podcast, since I released the first episode of my Disruptive Dialogue podcast today.

The first podcast I began listening to on a regular basis was For Immediate Release/The Hobson & Holtz Report.  Hosted by Shel Holtz and Neville Hobson, this international show (Shel's in California and Neville started the show from Amsterdam but now lives in the UK) covers topics frequently on my mind -- the intersection between communication and technology.  Ultimately, the focus isn't that different from my own Disruptive Dialogue but I think I have a slightly different take on things and come to things with perhaps just a little more of the technology/innovation focus than the PR/marketing one.

One thing I really like about this podcast is that it is a discussion between Shel and Neville, not merely one person pontificating for 30 or 60 minutes.  They're always timely, lively, and informed.  Even when I disagree with them, I appreciate their points of view.

They've also helped educate me about some things, like Second Life, that I was vaguely familiar with but hadn't fully appreciated the role technologies like that could play in communications.

Now that they keep the podcast to under an hour twice a week, I find it is a manageable part of my media diet.  I encourage you to give it a listen and see if you don't agree with its value.

  • As founder & CEO of CustomScoop, I have a special interest in the intersection of technology and PR/marketing. In addition, as a serial entrepreneur and angel investor, I cover those topics, as well as an occasional post on the gadgets I love.
